On Tuesday evening, the Engine ventured up to Grace Park School in Woodlyn to do some joint training with Woodlyn Fire Company. The two crews quickly discussed what the agenda of the drill would be, and then jumped into action. Chief Poltrock of Woodlyn began the drill with some review of truck company operations including proper carrying and raising techniques of ground ladders, as well as proper placement. Then the crews went up to the roof and reviewed vertical ventilation on residential buildings with both flat and peaked roofs, commercial buildings, and trench cuts.
After about an hour and a half of truck company operations, the crews switched it up and turned their attention to engine company operations led by Lt. Close. The crews went over Engine 70 including all of the handlines and how to deploy them, pack them, and when we would stretch a certain line. The crew from Woodlyn was also explained our procedure for laying a supply line, and what their roll would be responding to a fire in our first due as they are sometimes the second arriving engine. After two and a half hours of solid training, and good team building between the two companies’, the crews wrapped up.
We would like to thank Chief Poltrock and Woodlyn Fire Company for this great opportunity to do some training with a mutual aid company. We look forward to joining you again in the near future.
