After hearing all week from the local weathermen that the Philadelphia area would receive only flurries on Saturday, early in the afternoon the snow began to fall and accumulate on all surfaces, including the roadways, which made driving very dangerous. Around 1530, Company 70, Rescue 62 and the medics were dispatched to I-95 South prior to Stewart Ave. for an accident involving four vehicles. Engine, Ambulance, and Airbank 70 took in the run. The crews from 70 and 62 assisted with packaging the patient for transport, and stood by for a significant amount of time in the cold snow awaiting the tow truck. Once all of the vehicles were cleared from the highway, the units returned.
Later in the evening around 1930, while the snow was still falling and the crew was enjoying some pizza and wings, the assignment was once again sent to I-95, this time Northbound just past Stewart Ave. for the accident. Engine 70, Ambulance and Rescue 62, and the medics took in the run. The crews from 70 and 62 once again assisted with packaging the patient, as well as securing the battery and the small amount of fluids that had leaked from the vehicle, and awaited the tow truck. This time the tow arrived a lot faster, and the units cleared.
In Ambulance news, Saturday night into Sunday the Ambulance finished up their 7 days of night crew (covering all Township EMS calls from 2400-0600 on weekdays, and until 0700 on weekends). The ambulance remained steady throughout the week answering 12 calls, and every night was covered with a 100% VOLUNTEER crew, as always.
