All week long the weather folks were forecasting a major winter storm to hit the area Friday night into Saturday that would dump upwards of 2 feet of snow. Late Friday afternoon the crew began to arrive at the station, duffel bags and sleeping bags in hand, prepared to staff the apparatus all weekend for the major storm. After a quick trip to Acme to load up on groceries for the weekend, the snow began to fall, and wouldn’t stop until 2pm on Saturday. The crew kept busy around the station preparing the apparatus, constantly shoveling the entryway to the station, and enjoying some movies and Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3. After a quiet night sleep, the Engine and Ambulance responded to the only run of the weekend, a medical call on Clymer Ln around 11:15. The remainder of the day was quiet, but that didn’t stop the crew from having a good time in the snow and enjoying several more movies. The volunteer crew remained at the station until Sunday afternoon; 48 hours after most had arrived. The station maintained staffing for the Engine and Ambulance all weekend and at some points had three pieces staffed. After all was said and done, the Ridley Park area received 30” of snow, making this the second biggest snow storm in the Philadelphia area in recorded history, and We will get to do this all over again on Tuesday and Wednesday, when the next storm is forecasted to come through, dropping another 2 feet of snow on the area.
