Early this morning company 70 and 62 were dispatched to North 9 for a tractor trailer fire. We all know how that goes in the Republic. Well, thankfully not this time. TAC-70 and the Chief arrived with 5 to find a carnival ride, trailer with the brakes burning. The truck was traveling with another truck, that contained a water tank and garden hose, which was used by the truck drivers to douse the fire. The TAC and Pipeline 62 were on scene for about 15 minutes cooling the brakes. Pictures to follow.
Just about 21:15 the assignment went out for an apartment fire on South Avenue. Engine 70 along with the remainder of the box Co43, TL05, Co18, E49, E75 and the EMS assignment and upon investigation by Chief 43C, found unattended cooking. Crews assisted with ventilation before being released. The Chief did a fine job wheeling the Wagon to the job. Just as the crew was able to gear down, they were gearing back up for a service call in the first due, no services were needed.
Today crews braved the 95 degree temperatures and headed to the training center for a live burn with Prospect Park and Norwood. Several Leedom volunteers worked together with 08s and 02s crews and did 11 burns by 14:00. Also today the ambulance went to the EMS celebration at 62s house then back to the training center to help clean up and fill the SCBA.
Engine 70 and Snozzle 08 went to West Chester for the 175th anniversary parade. The boys hung out in the back of the ambulance with the air going trying to stay cool in the oppressive heat, even still a good time was had by all.
Just before noon 70, 62, 43 and Ridley-7 were dispatched to 291 and Sellers Avenue for an accident with entrapment. Rescue 62 was first to arrive confirming heavy entrapment, single occupant. A Jeep Wrangler was rear ended in a chain reaction accident by a dump truck. Chief 62 expedited Rescue 43 and had Rescue 48 dispatched for manpower. 70”s crew arrived short staffed and handled engine company responsibilities. The operator was extricated in less than 20 minutes and transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.

Today we traveled south to Carlisle’s Marine to bring home the new Marine 70. Doc Carlisle and had staff took the time to go over every detail. This is the first new boat we have ever purchased. The boat is waiting to be registered, lettered and lit before going into service hopefully early June. It is a 21 foot Carolina Skiff, 115hp Mercury engine with electronics compartment and TEE top, a few other extras were put on like a leaning post. Here’s to the crew of the Swamp, hopefully this boat last’s a good long time.
Just before 20:00 the storm started rolling through Delaware County. As the Company meeting was ending, the Engine was dispatched to cover Lenni Heights. While the Engine was in 54s local, the TAC and Rescue 62 went to the 700 block of Stockton Circle for trees and wires. A limb had fallen from the tree on to the wires and was arching, causing a fire in a tree below, as well as the limb that was on the wires. Eventually the power went out, the fire went out from the rain, the companies returned to service. Well, then the rain stopped, the newly invigorated winds picked up causing the previously smoldering limb to once again ignite. By now the Engine has returned from Lenni, so the crew boards the TAC for the single engine response back to Stockton Circle. Still waiting for the PECO rep, we watch the embers fall into the yard of the homeowner and the neighbors. Fire board notified Chief 70 of a transformer out on the 700 block of Clymer Lane, this time the Engine and Rescue 62 are sent. No services were needed there and they went available. The Chief radioed the Engine and Rescue 62 to come to Stockton Circle, because the falling embers are now endangering the multiple sheds in the yards. Just after the Engine and Rescue arrive, the PECO rep arrives, nice to see, it’ll be time to go home. Well not so fast he leaves to “kill it, then I’ll be back”…the power company reenergizes the line, what a show that was, the limb with small fires and dropping embers is now burning, well. Everyone knows what happens to power line when they are too close to fire for an extended period of time, naturally, and the way this night is going, it broke, making a spectacular show. Out goes the power down come the line, line hits the shed, sparks and embers are everywhere, but where is the PECO rep? Who knows. Finally he returns and assures and reassure that the lines in the area are dead and we can put some water on the smoldering branch. An eventful night for a routine call……Yea! Thanks to the crews of the Swamp and to the Brothers at 62 for hanging in there with us. The pics are from Station62.com
